my new hobby

I have decided that while it may take a couple more months to get my house, I can go ahead and decorate it now!

I look through different magazines and just let my mind wander. I clip things out and tape them to index cards, then I take the index cards and tape them together accordion-style so that I can have it all bundled up. My brain, nice and tidy for once. :)

Jeff can finally see what I've been trying to get at and I think he is really catching on. I'm sort of a modernist in that I like clean lines and punchy colors, but I like "fancy" in it somewhat. I like to be understated with a few bursts of whimsy...kind of like me.

  1. Grey and taupe walls in the living room with black and dark brown pictures hung, a dark, dark brown sofa (leather!!) with some bright pillows that are mismatched as well as a few little curious trinkets (like the glass birds Grandma gave me for presents all the time)
  2. A clean yellow in the kitchen with a bunch of bright colors (and no cabinets - that's got Jeff scratching his head...I think it'll be neat and modern *until we can afford decent cabinets - don't tell him that*)Stainless steel appliances (or black). :)
  3. A dark turquoise blue hallway with pictures of family, artwork from future children, etc.
  4. An office with lots of room to play board games. Done in a soft buttery yellow with a black-and-white printed picture of my Grandma and very billowy curtains (silk taffeta or something neat like that). This would only work in a room that gets natural sunlight - otherwise scrap the yellow and go with Grandma's signature "blue" color with whitewashed cedar planks on the ceiling and white linen curtains!
  5. An "Indian Summer" brownish-orangish dining room with dark brown dining table, maroon "leather"-upholstered seats on one side, a big bench on the other, a neat buffet, and a stained glass window (or at least a window hanging)
  6. A dark but grassy green bathroom with white tile and silver fixtures would be super!! Or a very pale turquoise and make it feel beachy without any beachy trinkets (seashells and starfish in Kansas? notsomuch)
  7. An ivory-colored entryway so it's sort of "nothing" and gives more attention to the rest of the house. If there's a basement, it'll be white with oatmeal-colored carpet squares that can be replaced if an "oopsie" happens!
  8. A very tidy garage. Jeff's deal. I'm envisioning some kind of "KU cheerleader" calendar or SportsIllustrated swimsuit edition collage on the walls. : >
Anyway, that's the scenario!!
